Since the winter semester of 2000/2001, Göttingen University offers a B.Sc. in Medical Informatics within the course of studies of Applied Computer Science. A special feature of Medical Informatics is its close connection with application fields.
Based on the traditional, international curriculum for medical computer science, Medical Informatics in Göttingen is accentuated towards strategic and operational IT management. Graduates will be able to assume positions of responsibility, and after several years of successful practical experience, to fill the role of Chief Information Officers in Health Care (Health-CIO).
The 3-year program in Applied Computer Science leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). Since the winter semester of 2003/2004, a master's program is also taught. Four semesters allow continued academic study and specialization. After that, students may proceed with a doctorate and, in accordance with the PhD regulations of the faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, be awarded the academic title “Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer.nat.)”.
